The day dawned bright and sunny – oh no! That was yesterday! Today it’s Midsummer’s day – the longest day the year and it’s very windy and very wet.

Lots of excited golfers eagerly and a little nervously waiting to strike their first shots of the tournament. Our first match against Middlesex saw Sasha drive off in the first foursomes match of the new format – with a fine shot.

Sasha and Heather had a real battle fighting back from 3 down to level, then 2 down back to all square and created a winning opportunity on the 18th only to see their putt lip out but earned a well deserved half.

Brandy and Elodie smiled their way through the whole of their match and won on the 16th.

Yasmin continued her high level of performance from the County Championships and cruised to a solid win on the 14th.

Salysa, playing her first singles match for the first team, played some really steady golf to defeat her opponent on the 16th.

Ellen had a real battle against her opponent, both playing some excellent golf, but Ellen came out on top winning on the 17th.

Sussex win 4.5 to 0.5 v Middlesex, gaining 2 valuable match points. Sadly, afternoon play was abandoned due to consistent heavy rain which was flooding the greens and making the course unplayable.  County Match Week will continue tomorrow morning with Hants v Kent at 8.15am and Middlesex v Surrey at 9.05am. Sussex has a rest morning and will play Hants at 1.30pm tomorrow afternoon.
